Frequently asked questions

How convamail sends from your Gmail mailbox, what your plan counts, and what your recipients see.

The basics

Is convamail a tool for mass marketing or cold outreach?

convamail is for email to people who expect to hear from you, such as your customers. It is not for mass marketing or cold outreach: our Terms don't allow spam (unsolicited commercial email), cold emails to people who haven't agreed to hear from you, or emails to bought, rented or scraped lists.

What is the difference between a sequence and a campaign?

A sequence is the email workflow you create, including the emails, delays, and conditions. A campaign uses that sequence with a specific group of contacts and a sending schedule. For example, you could create a "Client Follow-Up" sequence once and then use it in multiple campaigns for different groups of contacts.

What is a mailbox?

A mailbox is a connected Gmail account that convamail can use to send emails. For example, if you connect [email protected] and [email protected], you have 2 mailboxes.

What is a contact?

A contact is a person you've added to convamail as a recipient for your email sequences. Contacts can be added individually or imported in bulk, such as from a CSV file. Your plan's contact limit determines how many contacts you can have available in convamail.

What counts as an active campaign?

A campaign that is running: it is sending, or waiting to send its next emails. Only running campaigns count toward your plan's limit of campaigns at a time. Drafts, scheduled and paused campaigns don't count, so you can prepare as many as you like. When your team is at its limit, a campaign starts or resumes once you pause or complete a running one. A running campaign completes on its own when it has nothing left to send, and you keep its history.

What is a teammate?

A teammate is another person who has access to your convamail team. Teammates can work together in the same account without requiring a separate convamail subscription. Teammates are unlimited on every plan.

Sending from Gmail

Do the emails come from my own address?

Yes. convamail sends emails through the Gmail API from the Gmail mailbox you connect. Emails come from your own address and appear in your Sent folder. Replies continue to arrive in your inbox as usual.

Does it work with Google Workspace?

Yes. convamail works with both personal Gmail accounts and Google Workspace accounts.

Can I connect more than one mailbox?

Yes. The number of mailboxes depends on the plan: Starter has 1, Pro has 3 and Growth has 5. You pay one price for the whole plan, not a price for each mailbox. The price "per mailbox" on the plans is the plan's price divided by its mailboxes. Each campaign sends from one mailbox you choose, so recipients always get its emails from the same address. Need more than 5 mailboxes? Email us at [email protected].

How much can I send per day?

Each campaign has its own daily sending limit that you can set. Your plan also sets how many emails your team can send each day and each month, while Google applies its own sending limits to each mailbox.

What happens when someone replies?

You decide what happens next when you build your sequence. You can configure the sequence to stop, continue, or follow the rules you've set when a recipient replies.

Can I pause a campaign?

Yes. When you pause a campaign, recipients stay on their current step. When you resume it, they continue from where they left off.

Recipients and privacy

How does convamail access my mailbox?

convamail uses the Gmail API to send your emails and to notice replies and bounces. For that, it reads only message headers, such as the sender, the recipients and the subject. It never reads the text of the emails in your mailbox.

Can recipients tell I use convamail?

Emails are sent from your Gmail address and don't include convamail branding or a "sent by convamail" label. If you enable the unsubscribe option, emails will include an unsubscribe header with a link on convamail's domain, which some email apps may show as an Unsubscribe button. If you enable click tracking, links go through a redirect on convamail's domain. If you enable open tracking, a small, invisible tracking pixel is added to the email.

Can recipients unsubscribe?

Yes. The unsubscribe option can be enabled for your emails. When enabled, recipients who opt out will no longer receive future campaign emails from you through convamail.

What happens when an email bounces?

An email bounces when it can't be delivered. If the address doesn't exist, convamail sends no more campaign emails to it. The same happens when a mailbox bounces three times because it is full.

Can I get my data out?

Yes. You can export your account data or delete it from your settings at any time.

Plans and billing

Do teammates count toward my plan's limits?

No. convamail allows unlimited teammates on every plan. Your plan limits mailboxes, emails per day and per month, contacts, and campaigns at a time, but never the number of teammates.

Can I try convamail before paying?

Yes. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial. You add a card to start the trial, and nothing is charged during the trial. When the trial ends, the card is charged for the plan, unless you cancel before then. The team's owner can cancel at any time on the Billing page. You get one free trial, not one for each team. Payments aren't refundable, except where the law requires a refund.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. The team's owner can cancel at any time on the Billing page. The plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for, and then it doesn't renew. If you cancel during the free trial, you pay nothing. Payments aren't refundable, except where the law requires a refund.
